Day 1: Arrival in Florence and tour of the Ferragamo Museum. The museum was founded upon the request of the Ferragamo family, to record the important work of Salvatore Ferragamo in leather craftsmanship, particularly in footwear. Inside the rooms more than ten thousand models are exhibited – some belonging to famous artists, such as Marilyn Monroe’s brown crocodile décolleté. You can also see the sketches of the shoes and models that made this Florentine artisan famous, such as the renowned cork `wedge heels`, patented in 1936, and the models created in raffia cellophane, sweet paper, and nylon thread. On completion of the tour you can take lunch at your leisure. In the afternoon you meet up with the guide for a guided tour of the centre of Italian culture. We will start with the Oltrarno district with its small artisan goldsmith’s boutiques, shoemakers and leather stores. Guided tour of the Pitti Palace: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palazzo_Pitti and the Palatine Gallery. Then the Old bridge (Ponte Vecchio) and Signoria Square. Free time and accommodation in hotel. Dinner in a typical Florentine “trattoria” with a traditional menu. We will end the night dancing in a disco in the city centre. Overnight stay.
Day 2: Breakfast in the hotel and transfer to Prato. This city is famous in Italy and the world for its textile production. In the last decades there has been an important increase in the population and it is now the second largest city in Tuscany, the third in Central Italy (after Rome and Florence) and the nineteenth in Italy for the number of inhabitants. Guided tour of the Textile Museum. This museum represents the historical patrimony and the present boundary of the Prato district, which has been involved in textile production for over 800 years, with 40,000 employees and around 8,000 companies exporting fabrics, textiles and highly innovative machinery all over the world. Lunch at your leisure. In the afternoon it is possible to visit the second-hand warehouse (clothes) or to visit the historical city centre.
